printing train tickets

I recently booked train tickets on the tgv-europe website for a trip from Avignon, France to Paris. I selected the print at home option for retrieving the tickets, only to find out that they must be printed on A4 paper, which is the standard size and type of paper in Europe, but not available locally in the twin cities, as far as I know. As a result, I haven't been able to print the tickets. I checked with their customer service, and I am not allowed to change the method of delivery for my tickets. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions?

Connie, this question is asked regularly, so you aren't the only one to wonder about this. The answer is to print as normal on US letter size paper, which isn't much different to A4. Most people report that it makes little difference whether they print at 100% or 'scale to fit' on their printer settings. Here's a thread from a while ago which covers this: http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/86424/ryan-air-boarding-pass-on-a4-paper.html

I'm sitting here looking at an old TGV ticket I printed at home on 8.5 x 11 paper. Nothing missing. A4 is 8.3" wide (slightly narrower than US) and 11.7" long (slightly longer than US). If anything is missing, its the gobbledy gook at the bottom of any page. The important stuff (ticket and QR code is in the top half of the page).

hi, if i remember correctly, it not an issue. my print at home TGV ticket had a barcode on one corner of the paper. All they hey have you do is to dog ear the paper so that the barcode can be run thru the scanners. They also had signs at the boarding gate showing this. at least thats how it happend with me. happy trails.

Yes, 8 1/2 x 11 paper is fine (I've done it with no problems). Do be prepared to show your passport with the printout.

Connie, I ran into the same issue last year when printing a Pass for travel in Switzerland. Their website insisted that it would only function with A4 paper, but I was able to print on normal 8.5" x 11". As I recall, it didn't (wouldn't?) print the first time, and I had to try it a couple of times but it eventually worked fine.
