I've been watching Ryanair prices for mock days. We will fly Rome to Germany (near Munich). In Sept. they have been 9.99 now for our date they are 29.99 (Mon. Oct. 6th). Should I buy thinking they may go up, or wait thinking they may go down?
Fares at RyanAir and the other discounts go up everyday as the plane fills up. If a large school group buys tickets the fare could even double overnight. In fact, if you wait too long, like a few week before departure, the fare is usually higher than the national carriers.
I recently bought my Ryanair tickets after watching the prices for a while. Generally, they just keep going up, so I ended up buying my tickets more expensive then when I first saw them.
There was once though, the price went down (to 0.01 Euros) after hitting 29.99. It wasn't the same flight as it was 10 minutes later than the one I had been watching. So I am not sure, maybe after filling up the plane, they add more flights and start at a lower price again? I'm just guessing.
In any case, I think, do not wait.
Ryan air had the .01 Euro fare all this week so far; I was going to buy tickets from Paris to Rome (with taxes, 45 euro total for two people!) but I decided against as the Beauvais airport is 50 miles north of Paris; a bit too much trouble.
i think anything under 30$ is a bargain. You can play the waiting game and save $50 - or just do it and lock in your dates you like. Granted - the cheaper they are - the less you have to worry about last min changes to your itenerary - but dont get too picky if you have specific days you must travel on! Or have a backup plan to another location (Hahn airport - then down to munich for instance if they are both a lot cheaper...) Whats yours time worth? keep that in mind to maximize your travel days!
