Priceline for air tickets

We'll be traveling from the pacfic northwest to France and Italy in October -

Has anyone bought plane tickets through Priceline (name your price)? How did it work out/what did you end up saving?

Thanks

Nothing wrong with trying but don't set your expectation high. There is little excess capacity these days for the motivation to sell at cheap prices is low. For us, the actual flight schedule is more important than the cheapest flight so I am willing to pay for a little more convenience. Good luck.

My concern would be the number of 24- to 36-hour flight times that come up during airline fare searches – sometimes with overnight layovers. They often have very attractive pricing, for obvious reasons. I don't seem to remember Priceline allowing you to screen that type of thing out, although it's been a very long time since I've looked at it.

Also note that in the event of irregular operations (IRROPS) liek flight delays, flight cancellations, and misconnects, if a ticket is purchased through an online travel agency, it's common for the airline to require you to go through the online travel agency's customer service to get you to your final destination instead of being able to just walk up to the customer service counter and have them resolve the issue, and with intercontinental air travel and crowded planes, rebooking can be a complex procedure that requires specialist assistance if planes are full.
