priceline

Any good experiences using the 'bid for flights'? By good I mean the times were decent, not long overlays, and not too many stops and of course that you were able to get a much more discounted price. We are going to Italy in Sept/Oct. We weren't able to get the tickets when they were $830 last year. they certainly aren't going down for now so we were thinking of other options to get somewhat closer in price. Thanks so much!!

I used Priceline for a trip from MSP to LHR a few years ago. I saved a couple of hundred bucks on the ticket. I've used Priceline for many, many hotels over the years. The best thing to do is read the rules and make certain you can live with any ticket in those parameters. If you can't accept that - best not to bother. I certainly wouldn't just cross my fingers and hope you get a quick routing, or the exact arrival time you want, etc. One more thing, to really get the best airline ticket fare you need to book close to your departure time (within a month is best, if you can swing it). Good luck! I do recommend Priceline but more often for hotels.

Air Canada has flights for around $1000 ai from Seattle or Phoenix Portland to Rome RT in Sept and Oct. Personally, I'd rather pay that than roll the dice with Priceline. Even if it meant cutting expenses once in Europe.

No information here on Priceline flights, but, I use them often to get rental cars and have had great success never paying more than half the going rate for a full sized car - all in the US however.

Check the websites betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com. On both of these sites people post their winning and losing bids from priceline and hotwire. I've never bid for flights. I have bid for hotels on priceline quite a few time and have always ended up at one of the major chains (always at quite a good price).
