Been watching Lufthansa airfare since September (DFW-TXL, FRA-DFW), thinking it would go down, even a bit and Thursday it went up again? Should I just go ahead and purchase now? I need 5 tickets and am wanting to nail down an apt rental ASAP. They are at $1486 now.

One idea: Kayak is showing Atl-Txl, Fra-Atl at $921. It also shows Dfw-Atl-Dfw at $305.
Flights out of Atlanta generally leave about 5:00, so hotel would probably not be a factor -- rechecking luggage would be.
I misread your post and looked for September, but you might try something similar.

We leave on June 22 or 23, so I was thinking this would be the week to buy. We really wanted to fly Lufthansa, because of the connections, the airline, but am wondering if $1486 on LH is as good as it gets, or do I wait 5-6 more days....?

two things to keep in mind: 1. fewer or easier connections are usually worth a little extra premium of a couple $100 or so, and being able to go to Munich or Zurich (and even much bigger Frankfurt) are usually worth it too! I agree Luft/Swiss is the way to go! You also pay extra in fees for each conenction airport you go into - so more direct can be cheaper unless you have lots of time and patience!
As for seasonal sales - a travel agent told me Swiss and Luft usually have sales/specials 2 seasons before... so Winter Jan/Feb for Summer. If you use miles - book 10-11mo in advance!

I agree that the ease of connections is worth something. We actually went ahead and bought, but my waiting a few days cost $50 more/ticket. Sigh. But now we can focus on other details of the trip!
