Isn’t it so frustrating to see your fare decrease! No times have changed, so nothing I can do about it. However, comfort + is the same fare as what I booked. Has anyone tried to negotiate better seats?
If the original tickets don't have change fees you should be able to cancel for a credit, rebook using that credit, and be left with a credit balance for the difference. I've done it many times.
I’m flying with Delta, I’m pretty sure they don’t have change fees. I did a credit once when they redid my flight times and it was less. This time it’s the same. It’s worth a shot, but I want them to do it to make sure nothing gets messed up.
When I originally booked, there were no direct flights to Venice from JFK. So, I booked to Milan one night, then fast train to Venice the next day. I suppose I could change to Venice, our hotel has room. But, in the past few months I’ve sort of looked forward to seeing Milan, even just for a day. Plus, I bought our train tickets already. However, the thought of not having to repack and that hour ride from the airport makes it seem a bit more enticing.
Thanks for the help!
I'm not sure Delta allows for unpaid 24 hours holds like on American, which I usually fly. But what I do is book and hold the cheaper reservation, then call in to have an agent cancel, which the credits and confirm the new booking. (This because I can never seem to use the "change flight" function on AA's site for international itineraries.)
We always fly Delta. I recently saw a decrease in our fare for an upcoming trip to Portugal. I’m like you, I didn’t want to risk canceling and rebooking online and having it get screwed up. I called to have it done by an agent. The hold time was going to be a couple hours but I was able to enter my number to await a callback. When the agent called, she said she’d be very happy to rebook the same flights at the lower rates and this would give us a an eCredit for the difference. Our eCredit is good through 12/31/23. When the transaction was complete (took just a couple minutes), the agent did tell me that she could see we had selected seats, but the process of canceling and rebooking had erased that. She told me I could either go into Manage My Booking and pick new seats, or she’d re-select the same seats for us that I’d previously picked. We did the latter. All of this was very easy.
Thank you, Vickie!
I also always fly Delta, and I think they have excellent customer support. In fact, I have two international flights booked for our first RS tours ever (BOE 14 with my husband and PARIS with my daughter) we are all so excited.
I booked both flights early on and the flights were changed many times by Delta over the months. I have now successfully changed both of these fights. The flight to Rome we were able to reduce the travel time considerably and even though the flights were more expensive, they changed at no charge because of a 6-hour layover that was the result of a Delta change. I did this by phone.
I just changed our trip to Paris this week - to a nonstop on the way there. I tried using the texting service and that did not work out so well, they were able to change my flights but when I looked in my app, the agent had booked us in a lesser fare class. I spent another hour on the phone correcting it. Delta is excellent at helping on the phone. However, I would not recommend their texting/chat option. I've used three times now - and all three were less than satisfactory experience.
I’ve had a successful chat change once, but that’s no indication I will again. I’m currently on hold with chat for 80 minutes, waiting on a representative. I called the customer service number and the wait time is 4 hours and it didn’t give me the option for a call back. So, I’m just sitting on the sofa with my iPad on my lap keeping an eye out fir when a rep shows up, while playing on my phone.
I’d love to just fly into Venice, but there is only o not one flight and I bet it will be changed. Not worth the frustration.
FYI - I always call the reservations line. Not Customer Service.
Thanks, I’m going to do that. I typed “still waiting” on the chat and it started me over again gayer I’d waiting 60 minutes . Argh. I called customer service and they don’t give me the option for a call back.
Edit. The phone number is the same to book a trip or “something else”. Does anyone have a. Umber where they let you ask for a call back? So frustrating. I would do this early in the morn8ng, but I’m worried the rate would change,
Hopefully by now you are all set? With Delta customer service, sometimes I get the option to leave a callback number and sometimes I don’t. When I don’t, then I’ll hold. My longest wait was about 3 hours once. I just put my cell phone on speaker mode, plugged it in to keep the battery charged, and kept myself busy doing other things while staying near the phone so I didn’t miss the callback.
I’m just about to give up for the day and try tomorrow morning at 6-7. I’ve been waiting over 2 hours on the chat feature. I hope fares don’t go up too much.
Omg, 3 hours this morning getting this redone. Called at 7:00 am and thankfully the call back service was in place. I waited 75 minutes. She messed it up completely at first. Cancelled my flight and rebooked it and charged me!! We were both very even tempered and friendly, and after 2 hours was able to void that charge and rebook with giving me ecredits only. . I am emotionally drained right now. But I have $1,000 total in ecredits for my family, so I’d say it was worth it.
I had to go in and do my seat selection. It was grayed out on her end as she said it takes about 30 minutes to open up.
Great news! Whenever something like that happens in regards to my travel or other things in life, I think it’s 🍀 lucky I’m retired so I have the time to do this! I spend a lot of time re-checking my flights to see if the fare goes down and if it does, I rebook it!
That's great!
I'm glad it worked out for you!
Just wanted to say thank you all for this post. I sent Delta a message this morning and was told my wait would be 15 minutes. It was almost to the second. The person totally rebooked everything within 10 minutes and got me all the same seats and now I have almost $200 for my next trip. Thanks again for all the information you shared.
Leslie,
Im jealous you got an agent in 15 minutes.
Lulu, I had psyched myself up for 2 to 3 hours, so I was pleasantly surprised. In all honesty, I think they just issued me a refund because my upgrade seats stayed the same. But, I do have a new invoice with the new price on it. I'm just happy you asked the question.
