Price Cut American?

Thought I would throw this out here rather than in "Post your cheapest flight", which inspired me to shop.

Seems there are some low fares out there on American for the spring and fall. Just booked Philly-> London, return from Dublin basic economy (which we are satisfied with) for $401, end of August. The price breaks, as in low to mid $400s, included Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and Edinburgh from here, not so much further into Europe East for South (save for Barcelona). Similar for spring which we had already booked at what we thought was a low price under 450, now 10% lower. AS we are in Philadelphia, I did not grind this through to see how this played out in other American hubs. The prices I was seeing on AA reflected on British Air, sans ability to purchase seats on American. We have never gone the seat purchase route before, but when we could get what we wanted for only $12/seat on top of a low price, why not.

Not from Tulsa, though. Sigh. Although we're still looking at at least Premium Economy, maybe Business. Yes, it's a splurge.

I think all the airlines are doing pre-emptive price cuts in the northeast before Jet Blue starts flying to London in 2021.

San Francisco non-stop to London on multiple airlines $371-$385 round trip mid-week in May. $410 in September.

Looks like the cheapest flight from Tul to FCO (Rome) RT for our dates is about $1300 basic economy, $1400 main cabin ecomony. Basic economy is no checked bag (not a problem), no seat choice, no changes. I'm heading back to British Airways.

Jane, there are also inexpensive flights on British Airways, Denver to London. Checking random dates, you can get from Tulsa to Denver for less than $225 (for some flights) on Southwest, if you have a way to manage the risk of separate tickets - friends in Denver, for example. Even if you opted for 1 night in a hotel (1 at the airport, cheaper options nearby) it could still be worth it.

I regularly fly from Denver, but I have family there, so I get a bonus visit.

CWsocial, that might be worth a try. I'll check it out. Thanks!

Edit to Add: Not sure it would be worth it. It would be two nights of hotels, (one each way), which would cut into our vacation time. And the savings to Rome was not that great. Basic economy was pretty cheap, though.

I tried it from DFW, too. We do have some family in North Texas, but it would still add two days to the trip - or rather, it would take two days away from our Europe trip, for not much savings.

Oh, well.
