I've noticed that Orbitz and Priceline are now offering a "price assurance" saying that if you've purchased flights from them and someone else books your exact same itinerary for less, they'll refund you the difference (up to a certain amount.) Anyone had experience with this?
They have had that for a couple of years. A while back someone reported getting a few dollars back from a similar offer. How do you or would you know if someone purchased your exact itinerary for less?
You trust the website to email you and let you know that you're getting a refund. So I guess there'd be no way to no for sure...
I know I "should" get a refund from Orbitz. My June 9 ticket price on the airline's website has dropped over $800 since I purchase mine in January!
Don't know for sure, but I believe I have read that yapta.com tracks and advises re ticket prices.
I believe someone else actually has to book your exact same itinerary in order for you to qualify for the refund on these sites. The price dropping doesn't itself qualify you.
"I know I "should" get a refund from Orbitz. My June 9 ticket price on the airline's website has dropped over $800 since I purchase mine in January!"
But you will NOT unless someone goes to Orbitz and purchases the EXACT same ticket for the $800 less. That's the trick.... And I would bet they did some studies and realized that it happens pretty rarely so they were "safe" in offering this "Price Assurance" LOL!!
Carol is exactly correct. If Orbitz sold you a ticket then Orbitz KNOWS how much money it will lose if it offers a lower price ticket on your exact flight. You can bet your bottom dollar there are complex computer systems to monitor all of this criteria. Orbitz is not in the business to give you refunds!
