Premium Economy from San Francisco to Prague

We are looking for the best airline for Premium Economy from SFO to PRG. My husband is 6'4" tall and needs a lot of leg room. I have been reading a lot of articles about the best airline to use. So far it seems like either Delta or Lufthansa. Lufthansa does not have a dedicated check in line though. Air France seems pretty good also.

Hoping the community here can advise me of their experiences with these airlines, and perhaps others I did not list.

Thank you.

There is no one best answer. There are a bewildering number of long haul aircraft all with different configurations. It’s not a matter of picking an airline. My best advice would be to start looking at flights on a search engine such as sky scanner or Google Flights. Once you see a few that appeal to you price wise, connection wise, use the flight number and date and plug it into the search engine on seatguru.com. Then you’ll see the configuration, the seats, which to avoid, etc.

Does Condor serve that market? We have enjoyed their Premium Economy and the fares are usually quite excellent. You’ll have to change planes in Frankfurt.

Heck, James, I am only 5’2” and I enjoy the extra room!

Biggest seats (width and leg room) will be with Virgin Atlantic, SFO to Heathrow.
Then suffer through a “domestic” flight between London and Prague.
(Domestic in terms of a non long haul plane with Europe).

Research the Prem Econ Air France seats. Many consider them to be horrible (I do) and the worst in the industry. They do not recline in the traditional sense but have a slight pivot.

Two years ago my wife and I "splurged" for premium economy on Delta/Air France (code share). The seats on both were bulkhead seats which gave some extra leg room, which I appreciated (I am over 6'). They weren't all that more expensive than regular economy and I had no complaints. This year we booked British Airways' premium economy on the 787 (Word Traveller Plus???) which gives 7 additional inches of pitch and an additional inch of seat width in a small separate cabin. Fares were just under 2K for each of us RT (Pittsburgh-Heathrow-Vienna going over and Budapest-Heathrow-Pittsburgh returning, we booked really early too).

The seatguru website referenced in an earlier post is a great source of information.

I'm 5'11" and I need leg room. I fly British Airways Premium Economy and it's worth the price IMO. Enjoy.

Go with Lufthansa, it will give you the shortest possible connecting flight (that will be on an A320-family aircraft with not so great legroom). British Airways and Air France all have their hubs much further from Prague.

We have flown Lufthansa SFO to Frankfurt in Premium Economy several times; my husband is 6'2" and it works very well for him.

Delta does not have a product called “premium economy“.

In the fall, on certain routes, they are introducing a product called “premium select“. Flights that have a Delta Comfort section are not premium economy.

The best in the industry are Emirates, Cathay Pacific and Singapore.

I recommend you look at the points guy website and read reviews of premium economy products on airlines that he has taken. Perhaps none of the flights he has taken has gone to Prague but you can at least get an idea of what the premium economy service is on a particular aircraft of a specific airline. So if you see an airline that interest you that has a premium economy product, look first to see which aircraft they use and then go to the points guy website to see if he is taking any flight on that type of aircraft with that particular airline. You never know! https://thepointsguy.com/reviews/flight-reviews/

Also, go to YouTube and look for people’s individual reviews of premium economy.

The size & type of aircraft can matter too in comparing the levels of comfort on premium economy products even within the same airline. That can be particularly important for tall passengers.

We recently booked Business Class [Lie-flat seats] for $2600 RT, from the West Coast to Zurich, returning from Frankfurt, for travel in the late fall. There were several carrier options at this price point. If some folks are ok with $2000 RT for Premium Economy, Business Class at this price is not that far off. This is the lowest I've seen Business Class in a long time. It never hurts to check all the price categories- the airlines are so unpredictable and you just MIGHT get lucky! [I always set up Google Flight Alerts.]
Safe travels!

I just checked Google Flights SFO-Prague and saw the above Business Class price point on several flights thru the spring- when are you traveling? I have noted that the price can change throughout the day, and if the price jumps, it usually comes back down in a few days.
Good luck!
