Any changes in getting to Prague from the airport since 2005's guidebook? I have checked the recommemded website for the bus timetables, but am not sure how to name the airport or my region of Prague which is still east of the main train station, Hlavni Nadrazi? Also, whatis the difference between the tram and Metro in Prague? I will be travelling solo and could use any tips. Thanks.
Hi Heidi
This is the info that we got for this summer.
Getting From the Airport to Downtown (and vice versa): It’s easy. Leaving either airport terminal, you have five options, listed below from cheapest to priciest:
Dirt Cheap: Take bus #119 to the Dejvická Metro station, or #100 to the Zlicín Metro station (20 min), then take the Metro into the center (20 Kc, info desk in airport arrival hall).
Budget: Take the airport express (AE) bus to Holešovice Station, then take the Metro into the center (bus runs daily 4:40-21:10, 2/hr, 30 min, 45 Kc, look for the AE sign in front of the terminal and pay the driver, www.czech-transport.com). These start running at 5am.
Moderate: Take the Cedaz minibus shuttle to Námestí Republiky, across from Kotva department store (daily 5:30–21:30, 2/hr, pay 120 Kc directly to driver, info desk in arrival hall).
Expensive: Take a Cedaz minibus directly to your hotel, with a couple of stops likely en route (480 Kc for a group of up to four, tel. 220-114-286).
Splurge: Catch a taxi. Cabbies wait at the curb directly in front of the arrival hall. Airport taxi cabbies are honest but more expensive. Carefully confirm the complete price before getting in. It’s a fixed rate of 600–700 Kc, with no meter.
Hope this helps.
I recommend Mike's chauffer's service - very reasonable rates - cheaper then a taxi or the car service the hotel was going to arrange.
I used them roundtrip and had no problem. In fact another couple on my tour had arranged a car via the hotel and canceled and shared a ride with me back to the airport. They didn't have a problem sharing a ride with me.
