Prague to Passau

Will be traveling from Prague to Passau Sept 30 and would appreciate any suggestions on the best way to get there. No flight service, trains sound inconvenient. Any suggestions appreciated.

Trains are only inconvenient if you don't know how to use them.

Lee, thanks for replying. Do you have some special tips or special knowledge for using these particular trains. I wasn't saying European trains are inconvenient--have used them many times, just what I had read about this particular trip. Any useful and specific information will be appreciated.

Sorry, I was going to give you some suggestion, but when I tried to load the Bahn website, it wouldn't load (maybe I don't know how to use it, LOL). Anyway, it's back up, here are some suggestions. The line from Nürnberg to Passau runs parallel to the Czech border, and there are several train lines coming from Prague intersecting it. Several times a day, there are direct trains from Prague to Munich and they cross the Nürnberg-Passau line, probably in Regensburg. Here's a connection, a regional train leaving Prague at 9:07 and going direct to Regensburg at 13:31. From there you catch two regional trains from Regensburg to Passau with a change in Platting. You can use that route using regional trains by buying tickets from Czech Rail for Prague to Furth im Wald for about €10/p (in Czech Koruna) and a €29 (for both) Bayern-Ticket online for travel the rest of the way to Passau. A slightly faster way would be to take the Intercity bus from Prague to Nürnberg and catch an ICE from there to Passau. With advance purchase, that could be as little as €29/p.
