Prague to Paris. How?

We are going from Prague to Paris in September. Considering both time and cost what is the best method? I am nervous about taking one of the low cost airlines like EasyJet. What alternatives? Train? Bus?

Maryanne, you are looking at 12 hours on the train with at least 3 transportation changes (bus/train). EasyJet is a most reliable budget airline with very modern planes. You just need to carefully read the check-in and luggage size/weight restrictions. There are possible extra fees. The flight takes just under 2.0hrs. I see fares in late September as low as 48Euros. If you are not nervous about taking Southwest in the USA, you shouldn't be nervous about taking EasyJet in the EU (except for the extra fees). As a side note, I have a nephew in Venice at the moment. He'll be in Prague in another week or so. Then, he needs to get to Amsterdam. He was going to take the 12hr train. Instead, he will be flying EasyJet.

Hi, Yes, the other option to flying is the train. Prague to Paris is one of those routes where you can tailor your own route. If you want to do the route entirely by train, I suggest this: Prague to Berlin Hbf. on the EC direct, then take CNL night train to Paris direct By day it can done all in one day too. Take the early bus/train to Frankfurt Hbf., then the ICE to Paris Est, much more comfortable than sitting in a TGV. I would do either route, day or night options.

Maryanne, Using one of the budget airlines would definitely be the best option on that route. Since you asked about "both time and cost", that will provide not only be a faster trip (~1.5 hours) but also cheaper (depending on when you book the flight). Current prices seem to be in the range of €50 - €70. I routinely use EasyJet (including this year) and they're my preferred airline in Europe. It appears that they only have one flight per day from Prague to Paris, departing at 21:50 which means a late arrival in Paris. In addition to EasyJet, you could also look at SmartWings or Czech Airlines. If you decide to use a budget flight, be very careful with luggage limits. If you think your checked luggage might be over the allowable weight limit, pay for the excess at the time of booking as it's considerably more expensive if paying at the gate. Also, note that EasyJet has a rule of ONE carry-on item per passenger of the approved size (no weight limit), and they do enforce that. Happy travels!

Remember, when comparing air travel to other means, in addition to a 1h45m flight you will have travel time to the airport (at least 35 min from downtown Prague), check-in, security, waiting (probably 2 hours), and time to deplane and find ground transportation, and time to get from CDG to downtown (or other) Paris. Figure 5-6 hours; what are those that say 1½ hours trying to hide. Also add to the fare the cost of ground transportation to and from the airports.
