Potential Air Canada Flight Attendant Strike

Hello all - AC FA's voted today (like 90+%%) to strike (I believe they've been w/o a contract since March - I don't blame them).

I'm flying AC on 31 August - so I'm really looking for folks w/actual hands on experience w AC (and theoretically with insider knowledge) to advise.

I have insurance, issued last year, so I'm not worried about being made whole if AC can't fly on 31 August.... however.... what is the official strike date? Anyone have any idea? I've heard 16 August and also 29 August. Anyone know?

I have started looking for alternates out of Boston or JFK, and for my open jaw, they're pretty low but I don't want to buy, even fully refundable, yet.

Also, what news site in Canada is doing the best job covering this? tyia!

The earliest the union could announce a strike is Augusrt 16, 72 hours before a strike could start. So the earliest possible strike date would be August 19. However, the vote was only a vote in favour of a strike if necessary. It's still possible an agreement could be reached, before then. And if a strike happens, it certainly could be settled before August 31. However you might want to consider booking an alternate, fully refundable flight on another airline just in case.

Any of the major Canadian news sites will carry the current status of the negotiations and strike situation: CBC.ca, CTVnews.ca, Global news.ca. Or check the union website for updates: cupe.ca

ah, thanks!!! I did read that there were threatened strikes by the AC and Westjet pilots a bit ago that were resolved before an actual strike, so fingers crossed!
