Portugal train tickets- Beware of unauthorized online sellers

Hello fellow travelers,
I continue to receive news/alerts from the Portuguese Railway Company since my trip to this beautiful country back in 2019.
Anyway, when researching their official website, cp.pt, I found this important notice:

I copied and pasted this excerpt from cp.pt:

Unauthorised sale of CP tickets on online platforms
We inform that "Rail.Ninja" and "Kiwi" are not authorised agents for CP tickets selling and there isn´t any contractual agreement between CP and those companies. CP declines any responsibility for the information disclosed by those entities or for any losses arising from ticket purchases made through them.

I recall seeing a post on this forum recommending these online ticket sellers,
so beware.

If you are, or will be, traveling to Portugal, book your train tickets on the official website:
cp.pt

Wish I could be traveling now!

Rail Ninja especially are scammers. They set up websites that look like they are official websites (at least to those not familiar with European trains), pay to end up high in google search rankings, and then lure people in and overcharge the massively.

Didn't know Kiwi sold trains tickets as well. They are to be avoided as well.

Thanks for the posting. I have been looking at train tickets for the fall, Rail.ninja quoted a price that was so much cheaper than what I was on the Rick Steves site and other sites online I figured it had to be a scam.

Rail Ninja actually does not quote prices that are cheaper. They quote prices that are much higher than what you get with the railways themselves, and do so under the (sadly correct) assumption that many people have no idea about how trains work in Europe.

Is there any reason why anyplace reselling the tickets would be cheaper and more convenient than the direct official site? Principle taught in first year economics--TANSTAAFL.
