PNR all I need on Frecce trains (Trenitalia)?

I seem to recall reading that the PNR code is all one needs for the Frecce trains, but I could not find anything recent in a search. Can someone confirm this?

I have purchased tickets for 8 people to travel together later this month, and I understand I need to print out (or load onto my phone) the tickets for Regionale trains. But for the Frecce train we are taking, I have a purchase confirmation with 6 people and our sear assignments listed under the same PNR, with the other 2 people on a separate one. (I had to make 2 purchases to get all 8 tickets).

I would love to be able to just show the two PNR codes when the conductor comes around, instead of downloading individual thickets with the QR code onto my phone and/or printing them out. I have already done that with the tix for two reguionalmtrains, and it amounts to a lot of paper and a lot of tickets on my phone. It is particularly difficult to keep all the ones on my phone sorted and organized somIncan find them.

So If just the two summaries with the PNR codes will work for our Frecce trains, it would make me very happy.

Thanks for your help!

You can memorise the pnr code or write it on the back of your hand, if you prefer. As long as you are in the right car and in the right seat nobody will care.

I assume you have purchased the Regional trains tickets on trenitalia.com , are you sure these tickets don't need to be activated online before getting on?

Hi Lola, I’m usually traveling by myself in Italy, so I just have one QR code - no help with that issue. But, I’m replying to let you know how I store my train tickets for a trip since I move locations very often - 15 on this next solo trip.

I create 3 iCloud share folders named with the first city name of that segment. Then I upload just train or bus tickets in order of use. After I arrive at the last hotel of that segment, when I’m reviewing photos that night, I delete that shared folder. Depending on how many locations you’re traveling, you could have an iCloud folder for each one.

I do similar folder setups using Google drive. Then I share the top level folder with my wife. Then on each phone, I use the Google drive option "Make file available offline" for each file that is critical, like passport photos, plane and train tickets, other tickets and reservations. I keep a top folder for the entire trip, and subfolders for each city.
Phones are locked with a pass code of course...

Hi Lola. Process varies by country. But in Italy, what Dario said. As long as you are sitting in your assigned seats and can somehow communicate the PNR code (show it on your phone, or just on a piece of scratch paper, or whatever), that's all you need. In Italy, the conductor has a computer that shows them what PNR code goes with those seats, if you have that code, that's all they care about. Have a great trip!
