planning to buy one 4 country eurail pass with swiss travel youth pass..suggestions please

i am planning 15-30 days trips to europe with major focus on switzerland.
eurail pass including switzerland is enough to travel 2 -3 cities by train by not flexible which is provided by swiss travel youth pass(15 days continuos) . so i have a plan that i should buy a swiss travel pack to travel switzerland so that i can travel more freely and also other attractions becomes free with this pass.
with a eurail pass of 4 countries( i wanna travel germany , budapest, prague, and vienna) , i can travel major attractions in these cities. as they are offering 5 to 8 travel days within 2 months.

is this the way to go or if anybody has better idea , please tell

Forget the Eurail Pass. Yes, buy a pass for Switzerland, but for the other places just purchase point to point tickets. Eurail Passes are a hassle and they do NOT include reservations and supplements. Eurail Passes have gone the way of the Traveler's Cheques. DO leave home WITHOUT both of them :-)

That Swiss Travel Pass covers a lot of transportation and museums for $397, making it a good choice for a two-week stay. The Swiss Travel Pass is sold at train stations in Switzerland, as well as online.

A 4-country Eurail Select pass starting at $349 for 5 travel days makes sense if you'll have some long trips within Germany, but does not save money if your travel route is just Zurich-Munich-Prague-Vienna-Budapest (about $325 at full fare). Will you fly home from Budapest? The European East pass covers Austria, Hungary, Czech Rep and Slovakia from $226 for 5 travel days, but it sounds like you may not need that much travel, either. actually i was planning to fly home from zurich as i will have a return ticket of that airport which will save me money.
226 dollars sounds good but still i dont want to miss munich and berlin. point to point ticket fares are high if combined for all places i guess. more than eurail pass.

Well that's your problem right there - never use RailEurope for anything as they are an over-priced ticket reseller. Also, the pricing map on this website needs updating and the information should not be relied on. You should always use the official rail carrier's website for purchasing tickets as this will give you the best price and the correct information. The man in seat 61 website noted above will give you all the correct information for each leg of your journey and will specify the exact websites to use.

If your itinerary includes Berlin and train back to Zurich, then the Selectpass is a good value to cover your 5 or 6 longest travel days, with no reservations required on daytime trains. Point-to-point tickets are cheapest if booked ahead on each country's own web sites (any where from about 3 months to 3 days, with limited seats at the discount rates). Rail Europe has some of those discounts too, but their conversion rate to US dollars can be a bit high (e.g., cheapest rate for a direct train from Munich to Berlin on March 25 is €65 through DB or translated to $102 with Rail Europe; other departures cost more).

Suppose I don't get a rail pass and I decided to book a ticket of departure whenever I reach that city. Stay there for 3 4 days. ( as you said tickets are cheaper if booked 3 days earlier).
this way I have more flexibility in my itinerary.
