I am interested in buying a plane ticket for July from Kansas City to Barcelona. Should I wait or do it now? I really want the best price!
It is nearly impossible buy at the best price. Like buying stock. You never know the best price or the lowest price until you are past it. July is peak. Not many deals for peak time. Buy when you are comfortable with the price.
With oil hitting $100.00 a barrel I doubt if there is going to be any downturn in the price of tickets. And as Frank said, July is peak season, find what you're comfortable with and go with it and don't look back.
Lori - Right now Kayak.Com shows Continental Airlines as having the cheapest fare at $1432.
I posted basically this same question back on 17 Feb and Frank gave me the same answer then. I agree with him. I went ahead two days ago and bought a round trip ticket from Sacramento to Copenhagen for July, deciding that fares are not going to go lower, particularly with oil prices rising (I paid $1247 on United and SAS...not too bad, but was hoping for lower).
Experts are predicting oil prices to increase with the Middle-East unrest and consequently airfares or supplemental fees to increase. That's about as close a prediction as you'll get.
I just paid $348 from O'hare in Chicago to Madrid...normal price yesterday was $706 but and heres some clarification...usair owed me a 300 credit, so I applied that
Miguel, is that a ticket for travel in July?
Ya, that is so ridiculous low I would love to know the details. Unless that was the advertised price without taxes and fees.
When traveling last summer we bought our tickets in January - so glad we did as the price continued to rise. The sooner you buy them the better, the closer you get the more you will pay.
Migel, Which airline?
Thanks for all of your replies! i will hop on it!
I'm flying in may, to madrid from ohare...the actual cheapest price I found prior to my 300 voucher was $671 on usair for mid may
Thank you! I will check out Usair. Sorry I spelled your name wrong!
I noticed the May fares just dropped recently. I'm hoping in a few weeks the June fares will do the same. Set up an alert with Kayak and you can get daily updates.
Lori, you cannot compare the price of a ticket in May from a major hub like Chicago to the price of a ticket in July from Kansas City. According to Kayak, com, the lowest fares in July from your city to Barcelona are over $1200, on a combination of Continental/Lufthansa/Air Canada and various other combinations. You might have a look there for guidance rather than relying on people here to point out good fares they got.
I'd buy. I waited and in a week not only did the trip I want go up $250, the flights I wanted no longer showed up. Better safe than sorry.
