Picking Seats on Virgin Atlantic

Has anyone left it up to chance to have seats picked for you on Virgin Atlantic? Do they generally seat people on the same reservation all together? It's $39 for each flight to choose our seats. However, we are flying with a toddler and I want to ensure our three seats are together. I am thinking the best bet is to pay rather than risk being seated apart. Thanks in advance!

I use to check people in for them at ORD It you are on the same PNR or reservation they seat people all together.
That $39 a seat just gives you a preference.

It's up to you, but if you have a toddler, I'd pay the money and pick your seats now. They may try to seat you together, but if the flight is sold out, and the majority of people have already paid and picked their seats, only middle seats may be left, and they could be far apart. If that is the case, asking someone who paid $39 for their seat to switch so you can be together may not go over very well. The airline could pull the nuclear option and force someone to switch seats so that the family could be together, but that would create the usual scene and probably lots of ill will. Given the debacle United faced when it forcibly removed a resistant passenger from their seat, I think airlines will think twice about forcing anyone to change seats just because a family did not want to spend the extra money to pre-select seats. Depending upon the length of the flight, it may be money well spend for piece of mind. We just booked flights to Rome, Paris and back home, paying to pre-select of seats on each leg, upwards to $30 per seat per person.

David & C., I think you are totally right. Though I don't love the idea of paying for seats, I would much rather have guaranteed seats together rather than stress about where we are seated for the next week. Thanks!
