Penality to cancel airline ticket

Not that I'm panicking but does anyone know if we would get any refund from Northwest airlines if we just canceled our tickets for our June flight? We do not have any flight or trip insurance as we wanted the cheapest tickets. Probably won't do this but just wondering

Probably not unless its for a particular reason like a medical condition, family emergency, etc. What you usually can get is an airline credit minus the change fee (whatever that is) which you can use for any future flights on that airline within a specified time period.

Usually your tickets say something like NONREF NONREBOOK etc. on the upper left hand side. If it doesn't say NONREF there is a chance you can get some part of the money refunded.

Did you spend over $2,000 a ticket? If not you probaly have non refundable tickets and in this day and age they mean it. Airlines no longer listen to any stories (True or not) they just say no.

You probably can use the credit in the future, but there will be a fee (on Delta it's $400) You need to cancel in advance or there may be no credit for future use.

On non-refundable tickets (generally the cheapest) the general airline policies is a $100 rebooking fee and credit to used within one year if cancelled in advance of the schedule flight. Some question about when the year starts --- generally one year from date of purchase and not the scheduled date of travel. Check very carefully.

Thanks for your thoughts. That's what I figured. Well I'll just take a breath, economize like crazy now and when we get back. We will enjoy our trip, it would be more waisted money if we didn't. What's the point of being in Paris and not eating well!

Remember Mary that in Paris one can economise AND eat well ,, the bread and cheese you pick up and eat on a bench overlooking the Seine IS good food, good french food in France,, ( yippee) ,, so don't think you will have to spend, spend, spend, to get good food. A streetside ham and cheese crepe and a can of coke( or pick up some wine at Monoprix and take plastic cups!) is a great 5 euro lunch,, then you can use the money you saved by having a " picnic" lunch on having a nicer sit down dinner.
