Passports for France

I've read where entry can be a hassle if your passports are due to expire in 3-6 months of your travel dates. We travel in August and our passports expires in Jan 2013. Anyone had any experiences with this?

The issue is that they do not want you to be in country with an expired passport. The 3-6 months is a recommendation and will depend on the officer and sometimes the airline personal deciding if the passport is acceptable. No one can absolutely say you will have no problem and the probability is low that you would have a problem BUT why take the risk. You have plenty of time, get it renewed. If you hit an immigration officer having a bad day, who knows. Remember the recent story in the Post about the tourist who's passport was rejected for a torn page?

I wouldn't worry about it. According to the Schengen agreement you can only be there a maximum of 90 days, anyway, and your passport is good two months beyond that.

Anecdotal, but: My previous passport expired very early December 2010. Of the European trips that I can remember, I made three entries into the UK and at least six into the Schengen area during the September-November period with the last Schengen exit being just before Thanksgiving. Nobody said squat.
