I have printed out TGV tickets for my husband and myself. I mixed up the day and month, but not the year, on my husband's ticket and it is printed that way. The RS rail dept. says it probably won't be a problem and a passport will probably not be required unless it is a senior ticket, and it isn't. But the TGV helpline says if you board with the wrong information you will have to pay the controler. I don't know how they would know unless they check the birthdate against a passport or driver's license. Do anyone know if either of these are needed when you board a TGV train or have any other thoughts on the matter?
I presume that you got Prem's tickets. The reason that your personal information is printed on the tickets is that they are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. If the conductor wants to be sure that a ticket is in the hands of the right person, he/she will want to see your passports. Does this mean your husband will have a problem? Perhaps not, but it would be a good idea to check with another rail expert besides the RS rail department. I suggest that you call the toll-free number shown on the Budget Europe Travel Service site and ask for their advice.
Thanks, Tim. I checked with the Budget Europe travel site and the agent thinks there should be no problem since the train and time are correct and there's no difference in price as if, for example, a 40-year-old had a child's ticket. He said he has never been asked for a passport. He said we might check at the ticket booth or information at the station, but I'm tempted to leave well enough alone at this point.
