Passport info for flights

I can’t recall, but it seems when I started putting passport info into the Delta website after I booked, it said something to the effect that I had to show my passport at the counter.

So, before I go back in and do it for 5 people (then it says), is it even needed or helpful?

Well, I don't know about the US rules, but in the UK and Europe you have to provide Advance Passenger Information on the booking site before any international flight, train or ferry trip. And then you have to show your passport on departure.

If you don't enter the information into the website, you won't be able to get a boarding pass until you show it at the airport. Then they will enter it and have to wait to get the okay to let you travel. For five people this will take awhile. Its much faster if you have your information entered.

You might still have to show you passport at the counter or the gate to let them verify you have it on you. (The airlines get fined if you arrive without a passport.)

Thank you both! I’ll do it this week. Just wanted to make sure there is a reason I should do it in advance.

API is a requirement. It may be a document check is required for you, hence the request to go to the checkin counter. This is usually to check you have a valid visa (if required) for your destination.
