Where can we purchase secure tickets? We want to be independent travelers, so any information regarding how to plan would be most welcome! We are retired but walking is not a problem and we love adventure. Any pension recommendations appreciated! Jacque
Check out the Passion Play's official website.
Thank you Lee. Can anyone recommend a Pension or inexpensive accomodation in Oberammergau. Thank you.
For the next month, I think, they are only selling package deals (accommodations with Spiel tickets). You should be able to get those online. After that they will sell individual tickets and you make your own accommodations reservations.
A little over a year ago, I stayed at Gästehaus Richter (www.gaestehaus-richter.de). It's not luxurious, but it is clean and modern, inexpensive, and traditionally German. It's about a block from the train/bus station and a short walk into town and the Spielhaus. The website is only in German, but Frau Richter speaks pretty good English.
Lee: You have been so helpful and we truly appreciate any and all information that would help us get around during the Passion Play. Is there any tip you might think of regarding us as Senior Travelers? Jacqueline
We were in Oberammergau last year and you can get
around quite easily as it is a small village. We
walked everywhere with no trouble. We are in our late 50s and found it easy to navigate the area.
While you are in Oberammergau, you are only a short bus ride (20 min) from Linderhof, only slightly further to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and just over an hour by bus to Füssen, Hohenschwangau, and the castles.
Thank you Arn and Lee - Our goal is to co-ordinate our "miles" with Passion Play Tickets and we are new to this - have either of you used miles during an event like this - I imagine you have to simultaneously get them at same time, but not sure how is best?
I'm sure by now you either have your tickets or you don't. We have just been told that our request for individual tickets for the Passion Play next year were granted (and the best seats!) As to hotels? In Oberammergau, you will pay through the nose. A hotel advertising a specific room at 100 euros per night today, told us the same room will be 275 per person during the play. Most hotel websites will not quote prices that far in advance--you'll have to email them. If you're looking for bargains, Oberammergau won't have them, so you will have to consider the price of a car, train or bus when you find a hotel in the area. We have found most passionplay transportation (e.g. from Munchen, Fussen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen) is only package deals--transportation, hotel and play tickets--and they're very expensive. Duetsche Bahn goes just about everywhere, but check the timetables, as some of the last busses/trains out of Oberammergau are before the play ends. We're lucky. Your best bet will probably be to rent a car and stay relatively far from Oberammergau--but there are a lot of little villages in the area. You won't have to drive far if you book soon.
