I am going to be taking a CNL train from Munich to Berlin with a friend of mine that lives in Germany. I live in the USA, so I bought a Eurail pass. He doesn't have a pass and will require a ticket. So we have to get a reservation for me, and a Reservation + ticket for him. Is there a way to do this to ensure we are in the same couchette (We plan on getting a couchette). I don't want to be stuck in a different one from my friend because then we can't hang out!
Easy, but requires the intervention of a human being, you can't do it online as Bahn.de assigns seats randomly. Let your friend make the reservation/ticket at a train station in Germany, or via Bahn's call centre.
Excuse me Christophe, you are in a position to know this better than I, but I believe he can go onto the Bahn or CNL website and book only the accommodations (Aufpreis), ie, 2 beds in a cochette for €25-€35 by selekting "Book only extra charge". His friend will still need a rail ticket for Munich to Berlin, and, I think, this will preclude his getting the best discount that he could have with a Sparpreis ticket.
Hi Lee He could try, but last time, I tried, it was still not possible to choose a specific seat or berth on Bahn.de they were assigned automatically, so it has to be done in one booking to ensure berths together, and I am not sure that you can book one reservation and one full ticket in one booking. But I must admit, that I have never tried!
Lee,
Sorry, I misunderstood you. Yes, you could buy two reservations (Nur Aufpreis) on bahn.de, and then the German friend could go to the ticket counter and buy a ticket without reservation, but I don't know if it isn't just as easy to get it all tickets/reservations at a ticket counter in Germany.
It seems like the easiest thing to do is to have him buy everything at a train station in Europe. That saves us both money and makes sure we have everything ready to go and properly done before our trip.
