Partner Tickets in Munich

I'm excited about the Partner Tickets for Munich, but I wanted to get clarification on one point. It says that you have to stay in your group at all times to use it. i.e., We will be a group of 4 adults. When we buy the ticket, does it ask how many people are traveling on that one ticket? If so, then I understand how that could be enforced. But if it doesn't ask, can't you just travel with up to 5 people? I don't want to rely on everyone always going to the same places... But I supposed even if it's only one trip it's a good deal, right?

It means up to 5 can travel together at the same time. Obviously, 4 or 3 or 2 can travel with it, also. Since you only have one ticket, the group needs to be together to use it.

If your group wants to split up and go different places at the same time, separate tickets will be needed.

Okay, I understand. So even if I want to go somewhere, and the rest of my party is staying at the hotel, it's okay for only one person to use it, right? If so, this pass is perfect!

You are correct. Any and all people who are physically on a public transportation vehicle (bus, tram, metro, etc.) must physically have the ticket on them. Or be able to produce the person with the ticket. Hence, if a ticket inspector asks to see your ticket, you need to produce it or be subject to a fine. If somebody in your group is not using public transportation, then they don't need the ticket.
