Is it safe to use the train station parking for 3 days? Is this located off the A1? I will be coming from Florence and do not need my car as I go onto Rome.
Not sure about Orvieto but it would probably be safe there. We left ours at the Camucia-Cortona train station for three nights and it was fine. The lady at our B&B in Cortona had told us prior to leaving it there that it would be safe and she was right. Our original plan was to leave it at Orvieto but since we had just completed our 3 nights in Cortona we decided to leave it there upon her advice. Not that Orvieto was not safe but we were already familiar with Cortona having stayed there for 3 days so it was easy to find plus I think it is a smaller train station than Orvieto which also helped. Another factor was we had a small Peugeot which is not exactly a high priority target for car thieves. We were offered a free upgrade to an Audi but when we told the rental company that we were going to Italy (picked it up in Germany) the gentleman behind the counter said it would probably not be a good idea to leave an Audi parked overnight in Italy. Convinced us so opted for the Peugeot.
Look for broken glass in parking lots--if you see any, you probably don't want to park your car there for very long and definitely not overnight.
Good point Kent. :)
