We are driving from Berlin to Dresden and want to do our walking tour starting Theaterplatz. Can someone suggest where we could park around Theaterplatz?

I'd use the Altmarkt Parkhaus (underground parking). It's really close to Theaterplatz and very centrally located. From there you can also walk to Weisse Gasse, the restaurant district, which you might want to do in the evening anyway... Entrance and Exit of Altmarkt Parkhaus are in Wilsdruffer Strasse.
