Parking in Venice, Italy

We will be arriving in Venice from the north by rental car. We plan to stay a few days in Venice itself and would like recommendations for a good, safe, not too expensive parking option in Mestre or nearby. Is there any parking lot that is attended (making it less likely for the car to be stolen), or is that wishful thinking? Is parking at the Marco Polo airport an option or do you have to actually be flying out of the airport to use their parking? Many thanks!!

I had the same question some yrs back and I ended up staying at Hotel Novotel in Mestre. They had indoor or outdoor parking for my rental car was xtra safe and the lodging & brfast terrific. They will shuttle you daily rd trip to Venice train Station. I too wanted to stay in Venice proper but did not want to risk car rental break in which is very common even in
high rise pricey pking lot at Venice train station.

We followed Rick's advice and parked for two days at the Tronchetto which is at the end of the causeway driving in to Venice. It is a huge multi-level parking garage and is very convenient to the vaporettos. Like everywhere else in Italy don't leave anything visible in your car. Mestre is cheaper but then you have to buy train tickets to get to Venice and then if you left something in your car it will be more train rides.

I also suggest the large Tronchetto parking structure. Just follow the signs coming into town. You can't miss it.

If at all possible you should arrive in Venice by train and be deposited directly on Venice Island at the San Lucia train station. Leave that rental car behind and forget about the tolls, parking, petrol and break-ins. A relaxing ride on the train is a much better option for Venice.

car rental break in which is very common even in
high rise pricey pking lot at Venice train station. JS Where is that information from? I've been parking at the high rise car park at Mestre for years. I've never had any trouble, and I have never seen any evidence of any either. Many of the cars are Venetian with dust covers on them. I've always seen plenty of dust on some, and never seen any broken glass. Oh, and its not pricey, either.
