Paris Zone 1 to Montmartre

I am considering purchasing a Paris ComboPass from the paris.conciergerie.com website. It provides unlimited free rides within 3 zones on all public transportation. I'm not sure if the zones are Metro zones or bus zones, or if there is a difference. Does anyone know how many zones are between Eiffel Tower/Rue Cler (Zone 1 ?) to Montremartre? Does anyone have a recommendation for the "easiest" way to travel from Rue Cler (or that area) to Montremartre?

Thanks!

Zones 1 to 3 cover just about all of the city of Paris, for all public transportation. To get from the rue Cler area you will probably find that the nearest metro stop is Ecole Militaire. Take Metro Line 8 in the direction of Créteil Préfecture. Get off at Madeleine-Concorde and transfer to Line 12 in the direction of Porte de la Chapelle, then get off at Pigalle. (When you are transferring, follow the " Correspendence" signs in the station.)

Be sure to get a metro & bus map and learn how to plot your travels

Maryann, you may not need a metro Pass. As Norma said all main tourist sites are already in zone one,, and most can be walked to from each other( Montmartre is an exception ) so perhaps just get a carnet of tickets, which is a book of ten one way tickets good for bus or metro, just under 12 euros I beleive.

Paris is a great walking city,, but its nice to have the option to jump on a bus or metro when beat.

Norma and Pat -- thank you both. I'm only in Paris a few days so I don't need a book of passes. This is my first time in Paris. Thank you for the directions!
