Does anyone know if there is any advantage to shelling out the extra dollars for a Paris Visite transpo pass over the Carte Mobilis Pass? There are attraction discounts associated with the Paris Visite pass, but since we will have a Paris Museum Pass, none of those discounts will do us any good. The Mobilis seems to be quite a bit less expensive. When I try to find information about it online, They only talk about the mobilis pass in Francais, and not English. It seems like they are marketing the Visite pass to English speakers because it costs more. Does anyone have any information that would encourage me to purchase the Visite pass over the Mobilis? We are only going to be in Zones 1-2. Thank you!
Hi Walter.. We go to Paris a lot and we just buy a carnet.. pronounced carnay... of tickets for the metro I think that is 10. They are cheap and good for the busses, also. I don't know much about the passes, but we never felt that we needed them and we stay several weeks at a time. Since you have a Museum pass I would think you would not need any more passes.
Thank you all for the excellent advice. Do the Carnet tickets work on the RER trains and the Montmartre funicular as well? I believe that the Carte Mobilis pass does.
Some of the information Steve gave is wrong. A single t+ ticket is good anywhere the metro goes (some lines end in zone 3), but only in zone 1 on the RER.
Walter,
If you are going to be in Paris for a week, you might consider a Carte Orange. We get a multi zone pass and use it for transportation from CDG airport, the metro and bus travel in Paris and even for day trips to Versailles. It is a weekly pass, Monday to Sunday that is avaible by Zones. You can buy it for just zone 1 or multiple zones. It is less expensive than the individual tickets if you plan on taking the metro frequently. It also allows you to use all buses and local trains in the zone you have purchased it for. If you already have the museum pass the Visite card would be a waste.
To get the low down on the card visit: http://goeurope.about.com/cs/paris/qt/carte_orange.htm
and then decide if it is right for you.
Good Luck
Cammie
Thank you all for the advice. Since we will only be there for a little over 2 days (unfortunately), and moving fast to try to see a lot in that time, I think we may just stick with the Carte Mobilis for 2 of the days. That way we don't have to worry about trying to predict how many times we will be using transportation options, and just get on and off whenever it suits us. Thank you mostly for confirming my suspicions that the Paris Visite card was really just a way to get a few more tourist dollars out of us.
