Paris Visite or separate tickets?

My sisters and I will spend five days in Paris including round trip journeys from CDG, Versailles and Disneyland plus metro stops around the city.

I am trying to figure out the math to see if we will spend €47 worth of travel for the five day Visite pass. We'd also take advantage of the €7 discount for the open top bus.

I cannot find the cost of an RER ticket outside of the central zones. Does any one know how much the journeys on the RER would cost to and from CDG, Disneyland and Versailles? Thanks.

The Transilien site is down at the moment so I can't look up the current fares for your day trips. However, I can tell you that the Paris Visite may not be your best choice because it is overpriced. The Carte Orange, a Monday-Sunday pass, can be a better deal even if you'll only be in Paris for five days. It all depends upon what day of the week you will arrive and what day of the week you will depart. What are those days?

Thanks Tim. That's the website I was looking for! I will have a look at it and do my calculations.

We're traveling Friday-Tuesday so the Carte Orange would not be helpful. I wouldn't ordinarily use the Visite card but it may work out in our favor for what we want to do.

Given you are considering CDG, Disney and Versailles and your days are limited. The Visite pass for zone 5 might be in order. Both CDG and Disney are zone 5, Versailles is in zone 4. A typical one-way fare to/from CDG is 8.40. Disney last trip was close to the 8 euro mark and Versailles around 6.20 (each way). Each metro ticket is 1.60.

If you have children - there is a reduced fare as well for the Visite pass.

From Notre Dame to Disneyland cost us 6,30 each way on the RER. Same cost if going to Versailles.

Personally the Visite pass was too pricey for us. Rick even suggested its a tourist trap.

We used the Carnet 10 pack for the metro, and then paid the 6,30 each way when we went outside the city.

We did a lot of walking and for 3 people, used 3, 10 packs... costing us 11,60 per person for metro fees + 37,80 to Disneyland ... a grand total of 49,40 for all 3 of us instead of 47 euros per person

After doing the calculations, the ParisVisite pass will save us money. We are doing quite a bit of travel outside of central Paris so it is working out better for our needs.

Thank you for your comments.

I have a question: If I'm only going to Zone 1, how long can I use 1 metro ticket? is it unlimited transfers too?

Jon,

A single t+ ticket is good anywhere the Metro goes (some lines end in zone 3) and on the RER in zone 1. The ticket allows unlimited transfers until you exit the system. If you buy a carnet of ten t+ tickets, each ticket is good for bus transfers up to 90 minutes after boarding the first bus. Tickets bought from a bus driver do not allow for transfers.
