Paris transfers from CDG on the RER

What is the luggage size limit to bring on the RER? My husband and I will each have a full size suitcase and small shoulder bag. Is this manageable on the metro system or should be take a taxi to and from the airport? It's our first trip to Paris. Also, supposing we take the metro, what is the best way to get from the Orly airport to the Latin Quarter (near the Port Royal stop)? Thanks everyone! We appreciate it!

I don't think there is a limit on the RER - just what you can manage. Depending on the time of day, a large suitcase could be tricky. We were on a very crowded train and had to really plan a stop or two ahead of our destination (St. Michel/Notre Dame)to maneuver to the door with our medium sized suitcases, or we wouldn't have been able to get off in time. Otherwise it was an inexpensive and quick trip, other than a long line to buy tickets from the machine and the aforementioned crowds. (It was a straight shot to our stop from CDG - looks like Port Royal is just two stops farther along. It's easy.)

Ditto what Andrea said - I can't even describe some of the 'luggage' I've seen on the RER! If you can manage your luggage around an airport and are in good physical condition, you'll probably be fine on the RER. There will most certainly be some stairs......And your Port Royal stop is ON your particular RER route - Lucky You! It couldn't be easier.........go to ratp.fr for info on the metro/RER/bus system.

Marcia, as the others mentioned, there should be no problems with that luggage on RER. Keep in mind that there are usually no Porters, so you'll be responsible for hauling it on and off the train (pack LIGHT!). The Metro could be a bit crowded, depending on what time of day you'll be travelling. I've ridden the Metro with a full sized Backpack, Daypack and Camera bag with no problems. Some of the cars may be packed, so try to scope out one with some free space as the train comes into the station. HOWEVER, you probably won't need to use the Metro, as the RER "B" goes directly to Port-Royal (it's the next stop after Luxembourg). The time should be about 25M. Happy travels!
