Is this train destination possible? And return for a day trip.
This trip is very doable as a day trip. You can check schedules on SNCF site. The station for Giverney is Vernon and from the station there is a bus (about 3 Euro RT) that will take you to Giverney. The Paris station is St. Lazare and the trip takes about an hour.
A couple of suggestions: we had to wait on the bus a good 20 minutes before the driver left. So if there are more than 2 of you or if you meet a couple of people on the train, it might be worthwhile to take a taxi. And if you are over 60, be sure to ask for the senior discount for the train. The woman who sold us our tickets kindly asked us if we were eligible as we were unaware it was available and it saved us about 25%.
For me, the trip to Giverney was a highlight of our trip. Have a wonderful time.
Thank you Judy. Very informative and will be so helpful.
You'll enjoy the Giverny trip.
I'm going to be there in May, as a day trip from Paris.
If you can, go to the Paris art museums that feature Monet's work, the day or two before you go to Giverny:
Orangerie
Marmottan
Orsay
