We will be arriving at gare De Nord from Amsterdam mid day and need to connect to Montparnassee for a train to Brittany. Any suggestions for how much time to allow for a comfortable metro connect ? We are reasonably fit 70 year olds with two carry on sized bags each so a moderate pace beats rushing through the train and metro stations. We have used metro but will need time to get a carnet (we will stop in Paris on the return). As an alternative what is a reasonable time and cost estimate if we need to go the taxi route. Thanks much for any help
Forty-five minutes. It's a no-changer on Metro 4, with less than a thirty-minute ride, but there's some walking involved. Call it an hour including getting the carnet at Nord.
Wild guess on the taxi is maybe twenty-five bucks and the time is still about the same with a bit of walking from the platform to the ranks and vice versa. Sometimes the queue at Nord is empty. A traffic clog getting across the river and up Rennes could gum up the works.
There's some pretty good buffer on the metro portion - - were I really nervous and had a ticket in my paw, I think I could almost make it in a half hour.
Thank you so much. If I can get something with an hour connect time I should be good. Appreciate your reply.
The official mass transit website for the Paris region is http://www.ratp.fr/en/
It will help you plan your route.
The blog www.parisbytrain.com has helpful information about getting around including illustrated layouts of some of the bigger stations.
The Montparnasse Metro/train stations can be complicated so it is worth taking the time to study in advance just which one you need.
Thank you. Those are good web sites. Don't know how I could have missed the Parisbytrain site. Most helpful. If he does not already have it RS needs to add it to his links.
Thanks again
