Paris to Rome-scenic detour through alps

I'm traveling from Paris to rome and would like to take a scenic link through the alps, preferably on a major route, not too many trains changes, etc. I've read I should go to Zurich and then take a morning train. Can I buy tix online in the US.

You can get really nice TGV runs into Zurich. However, I would have you consider the TGV run into Geneva. From Geneva, take the train to Montreux and take the Golden Pass scenic train to Spiez and transfer to the high-speeds going to Milan, Florence and Rome. If you have the time (like an extra 4-5 hours), I would suggest not getting off at Spiez but continuing on for 20 minutes to Interlaken Ost. From Interlaken Ost, take the 20 minute local train ride into Lauterbrunnen and see the alps on steroids. Reverse out to Spiez and then head south to Rome. You'll see more alps on the way south out of Switzerland and into Northern Italy.
