I am leaving for Paris in a couple of weeks, and can't seem to find any choice for a night train to Rome, but couchettes on Artesia. Is this my only option? Should I then buy the ticket before I leave the states or can I safely purchase when I get there. I don't want to wait too long and not be able to get a ticket. Thanks for any help or advice in advance.
Private sleeper cabins are currently unavailable on Italian trains due to a contracting dispute. Seat61.com has some more details about the situation: http://www.seat61.com/Italy.htm If you're certain you want to do that route with a couchette on a certain date, I'd go ahead and book. But I never had a problem buying couchette tickets two or three days in advance at the stations.
