We are going to Riga in June to spread my grandparent's ashes. We are meeting my sister there and have specific dates we need to be in Riga. We were able to used frequent flier miles to get to Paris, the only tickets we could find to Europe, but we keep hitting major potholes trying to get from Paris to Riga. Can anyone offer suggestions? We fly into CDG. Thank you so much!
Paris is a pretty bad hub for European travels as they don't really allow a lot of low cost carriers to fly to their airports. London, Cologne, Berlin and others would be suited much better. You could try germanwings.com from Paris to Cologne and on from Cologne to Riga. Alternatively check ryanair.com for flights from Beavais (North of Paris) via Skavsta (they call it Stockholm) to Riga...
As isailtheseas notes, Air Baltic flies Paris CDG-Riga...rates run from 43 to 412 Euro (?!) each way. Their cheapest flight appears to be the 2:10 pm departure, which would probably be perfect for anyone arriving in the morning from North America. KLM offers round trips from $335 U-S, with a stop in Amsterdam, according to Kayak.com
Thank you for the tips! I looked on germanwings.com and there are no flights from Paris during my travel dates. Air Baltic has flights and looks like it will work for us! Thank you so much for the help. I really appreciate it.
Maybe if you were to try different dates to a different airport you may have better luck. I suspect either London or perhaps Amsterdam may have better connections for your trip. Another option would be to 'split' your grandparents ashes and you could spread them some other time. I hear January is lovely in Riga. A Final option would be to try the south of France, or Italy. I hear lots of good things about this place called 'Rome.' Perhaps your grandparents would like it there?
