Any tips? I want to do it as a daytrip from Paris, then head back through Paris to Brussels. I worry about running out of time to explore and photograph the historical site. What is transportation like between Limoges and Oradour sur Glane? How long does it take? What is the cost? Taxi? Bus? Any additional advice would be much appreciated!

I don't think this is a day trip from Paris. Paris to Limoges is three hours by train and bus transport from Limoges to Oradour-sur-Glane is relatively limited: three buses per day at 0755, 1235, and 1823. The bus trip takes 30 minutes (http://hautevienneencar.cg87.fr/fileadmin/user_upload/fiches_horaires/12_1111.pdf) and costs 2 euros.

Thank you Philip! That's kind of what I was thinking... Although, I suppose I could take a taxi instead of the bus. I'm okay with it being a long day - I will then head to Brussels to visit my brother so I won't have to find a hostel or anything.

Ashley, That's going to be a LONG day trip. As the previous reply mentioned, just the train trip will be about 3 hours each way. Add to that the Bus trip and waiting times. I'd suggest allowing at least 2-3 hours to visit Oradour-sur-Glane. It's a very moving site, and takes awhile to "absorb" what you're seeing. I assume you'll be reviewing the history prior to your visit? You'll enter the site through the Visitor Centre which has displays, so be sure to leave time to have a look at those. There's a small shop there as well. IMO, it wouldn't be worthwhile to make a trip of that duration and then only be able to spend half an hour at the historic site. Have you considered spending one night in the Limoges area and then continuing to Brussels the following day? Happy travels!
