Can anyone tell me the best way to get to Interlaken from Paris on an overnight train? Also, do you know how long it takes and do you have to switch trains? Thank you!
We took a night train from Paris to Zurich and on to Interlaken. We had to switch trains in Zurich.
The train left Paris around 20:00 or 22:00 hours. I think it was approximately 8 hours...not sure.
The porter will take your passports so they will not have to wake you at the Swiss border.
It was a nice experience...but would not do it again. It was warm so we had the window open...track noise kept us awake for a while.
From Paris, you can get night trains with sleeprs to Munich and Venice but I don't see any into Switzerland. If you can get to Zurich, you can get on the 313 Luna night train with sleepers to Milan but you would have to get off at Bern or Spiez an hour or two later. Unfortunately, there are no good night train with sleeper options from Paris to Interlaken. There are night train runs without sleepers. They depart about 7:30pm and require 2-4 train changes. You will arrive early in Interlaken but you will change trains in the middle of the night. The runs take 11.0hrs-12.0hrs.
During the day, you can go from Paris-Gare de Lyon to Interlaken Ost in 6.0hrs. 1 train change in Bern.
We were just in Interlaken this week,in the opposite direction. The train from Interlaken to Bern takes about 40 minutes. The ride from Bern is only 4 hours. You have to switch in Bern since Interlaken is served by a regional train and the Paris/Bern route is served by the TGV fast trains.
