"What city is the best one to go to? " I guess that depends on what you like. Koblenz, from which you can access the middle Rhein and the Mosel, is less than 5 hours by train from Paris. Strasbourg and the Black Forest are just over 2 hrs, Heidelberg is about 4 hrs away. Munich is about 6.

Sorry sud, But with the best will in the world and in the nicest possible way, how the &^ are we supposed to know which would be the best one for you? You're near Seattle, right? Which city east of the Mississippi is the best one to go to? It all depends on what you like. Depending on that it could be Aachen Frankfurt Munich Cologne Garmisch Berctesgaden (sp) Kochel-a-S Nurnberg Bamberg Passau Regensberg Trier Berlin Lindau Idstein Baden Baden

The German city best (easiest?) to go to from Paris is Saarbrücken as it's just across the border. Saarbrücken is well worth a 60 minutes visit ;-). If you're looking for a real, vibrant German city filled with history and the most stunning cathedral (2nd largest Gothic building in the world) take the Thalys from Paris Gare du Nord to Cologne!
