I am planning to take the train from Paris to Colmar and Strasbourg. My question is should I travel from Paris directly to Strasbourg, or Paris to Colmar? I know there is a tvg from Paris to one of those cities, and I know I can take the train between Colmar and Stasbourg. I will fly in to Paris, spend a few days there, and then take the train to one of those cities. I will spend a few days in both cities, probably the majority of time in Colmar. Then I will take the train back to Paris. I think that I would go from Paris to Strasbourg, spend a few days there, go to Colmar, and then back to Strasbourg to catch the TVG to get to Paris. Is that correct? Thanks for your help. Rod in Santa Cruz
Without doing a lot of checking, what you are proposing sounds correct. Any journey to Colmar from Paris would change trains in Strasbourg. The stretch from Paris to Strasbourg is fastest on TGV, but there are probably some regional trains as well. From Strasbourg to Colmar would more likely be regional trains.
There are three TGVs/day that go directly from Paris to Colmar (with a stop in Strasbourg). At other times of the day you'll have to change trains in Strasbourg.
It's easy to see this for yourself by using the timetables on the German Rail site where you can get detailed timetables for most of Europe.
