I would like to know the best way and cheapest way to get round trip from Paris to Brugge? There seems to be several different lines and I am so confused!! I also have to go the
same day on the return to Paris, from there to Amboise.
I don't understand what having a reservation and pass both mean and on the pass for more than 1 country they want it validated several months in advance???
Since several routes are possible, it's easy to get confused. Use www.bahn.de to get detailed timetables. Click on "Internat. Guests" for English. You can go Paris-Bruxelles-Brugge or Paris-Lille-Brugge (with a change or two between Lille and Brugge). On the return you can go Brugge-Bruxelles-Amboise (skipping Paris) or the reverse of what I listed above, but then you'll have to take the Metro (Line 5) from Gare du Nord to Gare d'Austerlitz when you get to Paris.
If you have a railpass, you'll need to buy reservations for trains that require them (€11 for Thalys trains and €3 for TGVs, if bought in Europe). No matter what kind of pass you have, do NOT validate it until you get to the station and are about to take your first ride.
Do you see the Railpasses tab at the top of the page? Click on it for complete information about passes.
Thank you for the excellent info Tim. I'm hoping that
all this I can do via the internet or I'm wondering if a travel agent would be a better way to go, this is the only detail left.
