Paris to Amboise train or car?

We will be traveling from Paris to the Loire Valley then back to Orly to fly to Venice. Rather than taking a train from Paris to Amboise renting a car for sight seeing than train back to Paris and on to Orly, does it make more sense to just go to Orly from Paris, rent a car drive to the Loire spend a couple days and drive back to Orly for our flight out? Should we reserve a car before we leave the states? Thanks, Debra
