We just spent two weeks in Paris and started out with the Paris Visite Pass because it gave us the ability to travel from CDG to our hotel on Rue Cler. We really liked being able to go anywhere for the first five days without limitations and would highly recommend that option over a carnet if you're going to be using the subway system, funicular at Sacre Coeur or RER extensively. We ended up using individual tickets and found those to be more expensive and a real pain in the neck after a couple days. I obtained our Visite tickets through AAA prior to our trip.
