Traveling with our daughter (in a wheelchair) in a few months and plan to take the RER B from CDG to Gare Du Nord. Supposedly this is an accessible train if you alert the ticket office that you need ramp assistance. I'm reading that it stops at a lower platform at Gare du Nord and keep thinking there has to be an elevator, but after much googling there isn't any information that I can find. Any help?
Yes, Gare du Nord has elevators from the RER B platforms.
Here is the list of stations with elevators: https://www.ratp.fr/en/accessibility/network-accessibility. I do not see Gare du Nord on the list but the list could be out of date or just plain wrong. Have you considered ordering a wheelchair accessible taxi from Taxi G7? I have seen and ridden in the elevators at Saint Michel Notre Dame and at Chatelet Les Halles but I have never noticed an elevator at Gare du Nord but then again I was not looking for one.
That list shows elevators with the assistance of an agent at Gare du Nord. They only want people who really need them to use them, otherwise use the escalators.
I wouldn't rely on any elevator that needs staff assistance. Are you specifically going to Gare du Nord to get a train or stay in the area, or is your final destination elsewhere in central Paris?
Thanks everyone. My main two issues are travel days.
We arrive at 8am at CDG but can't check into the apartment until 4pm. Thought maybe taking the train to Gare Du Nord would allow us to store our luggage and grab a bus to do some other things, then back to get the luggage and grab a bus directly to the apartment later in the day. Not worried about the busses. Any other ideas about what to do with luggage on day one welcome, we could take a wheelchair taxi anywhere in the city, but saddled with luggage all day would be more than challenging.
Second issue is getting back to the airport for an early flight the following week and figuring out how to do that.
Gare Du Nord solves a lot of my problems IF there's lift access to the lower platform.
If looked at all of the accessibility info through Paris transportation sites, but a "handicapped accessible" mark on a map, and it actually being easily accessible to and from all areas needed are two very different things.
Have you considered eelway.com for the bag storage? It will not be cheap but they will pick up the luggage from CDG and deliver it to the apartment which will save you having to deal with Gare du Nord and having to do both luggage drop off and pick up, which depending on the location of your apartment could be a major pain. Another option is luggage storage near your apartment using City Locker (dedicated storage facilities that may be near your apartment) or something like nannybag.com (businesses that use their extra space for storage). What will you do if the lift is out of service when you get there?
Be prepared for elevators to be broken so you may need to do some walking to find ones that are operable...at least at Gare du Nord.
