PARIS PASS

WE HAVE HEARD CONFLICTING REPORTS ON THIS PASS. WE KNOW IT GETS YOU TO THE FRONT OF THE LINES AND IT GIVES YOU A DISCONT ON ADMISSION, BUT CAN YOU USE THE METRO TO GO OUT TO VERSILLE, THE EIFFEL TOWER AND WE ARE STAYING IN THE MONTE MARTE AREA. SOME SAY IT IS ONLY GOOD ON THE METRO IN THE DISTRICTS 1 THRU 3, WE NEED ACCESS TO A LARGE AREA OF PARIS AND DON'T WANT TO PURCHASE THIS IF IT WON'T GET US THERE. THANK YOU

First of all, writing in all capital letters is considered "shouting" and makes messages harder to read.

IMO, the Paris Pass is not a good deal, primarily because the zone 1-3 Paris Visite pass which is included is usually not a good deal. You'll do better buying a Paris museum pass (www.parismuseumpass.com) when you get to Paris for whatever days you wish and other kinds of transportation passes for whatever days you wish. Those days will not have to coincide--and your total cost will be less as well.

Versailles is in zone 4. A Paris Museum pass includes entry to Versailles. A ticket to Versailles on the RER C line includes Metro rides to connect with it and costs 2.80€ each way. If you don't want to use a day of your museum pass to get into the palace, you can buy a Forfait Loisirs which covers admission plus gives you roundtrip tranportation. The best kind of transportation pass, if any, depends upon where you will arrive (airport or train station), how many days you'll be in Paris, and which days of the week those will be. If you give that information, I'll be happy to advise you further about tranportation choices.

You didn't say whether or not you're arriving by plane or train so I won't give suggestions on how to get from either CDG or Orly to Paris.

For the time you'll be in Paris, the perfect pass will be a zone 1-2 Carte Orange Hebdomadaire (16.30€). It's a seven-day pass that is good Monday-Sunday. You load it on a passe Navigo Decouverte rechargeable card for which you pass a one-time fee of 5€. It requires a small headshot photo a bit smaller than a passport photo. You can buy everything on the day you arrive, but you won't be able to use the pass until Monday.

For Sunday rides, buy ten-ticket carnets (11.10€) and share the tickets with the members of your group. Tickets are good anywhere the Metro goes, on the RER in zone 1, on buses, and on the Montmartre funicular. Each ticket allows unlimited transfers on the Metro and/or RER so long as you don't exit the system and it allows bus transfers for 90 minutes after boarding the first bus. You cannot transfer between metro and bus on the same ticket.
