Paris: Nanterre Prefecture station: included in T+ ticket?

Hello all,
We will be visiting Paris in October and staying near the Nanterre Prefecture station. It looks as though this should be included in a typical T+ ticket, since the RER map on ratp.fr indicates it's in Zone 3. But when I plug it into the 'Next Stop Paris' app, it appears an extra fee would be charged. Am I missing something?

I had hoped this would be included in a Paris Visite (Zones 1-3) pass.

A T+ ticket is not the same as a Paris Visite pass.

A single T+ ticket (€1.90 when purchased singly, €14.90 in a carnet of 10) allow you one trip on the Paris Métro (in any zone), the RER within Paris city limits (zone 1 only), all RATP tramways and buses, or the Montmartre funicular. Note that it specifically does not include RER travel outside of zone 1. Because the Nanterre-Préfecture station is an RER station located in zone 3, a T+ ticket is not valid for this station and additional fare is required.

A Paris Visite zone 1-3 pass (which of course costs much more than a single T+ ticket) is exactly that: it allows you travel on any form of RATP public transport within zones 1 to 3. You can travel to Nanterre-Préfecture on this and not be charged anything extra.

Mary,
You may consider getting the Navigo Découverte Pass especially if you plan to be in Paris for 4-5 days, and your days fall on Monday - Sunday.

The ND Pass covers transportation in zones 1-5, so you can basically travel all around Paris via Metro, Bus and/or RER!

Don’t forget to book your Eiffel Tower tickets, usually available 92 days in advance of your travel dates.

Enjoy your trip!

Hi Priscilla,
We will be in Paris from Thursday 10/18 through Sunday 10/21. Since it includes train to CDG, that sounds like it makes better sense! Thank you for mentioning it.

Regarding the ND, after researching it, it appears I must buy it at a ticket office rather than a machine, and I must have a photo. Is this current information? Are there restrictions on what size/type photo I need (as with passport photos)?

Also, if we take a later trip to Paris (next year, perhaps), can we reload the Navigo again at that time, or must we purchase a new one?

Thank you!

Yes

No. Smaller is OK, any photo will do, even copy a photo on plain paper or print one out

Reload it.

Mary,
I see that Nigel has already answered all your questions.

You’ll need a photo (3cm by 2.5cm).
I just copied my passport photo but decreased the size, and printed it on regular paper. I carried the photos in a small plastic container to avoid bending them since they were so flimsy.

The ND Pass is great because you don’t need to mess with tickets, and you can use it as many times as you need to.

Enjoy!
