Paris -> Munich

I'm staying in Paris in a flat for 2 wks!
I plan on taking daytrips on the TGV within France.

I want to go to Munich for maybe 4 of the days. Should I fly? I can get roundtrip fares for under $80! Whaddya think -thanks in advance!

By rail the advance non-refundable fare listed on the DB website is 39 Euro each way, and the journey is just over 6 hours. When you factor in the cost of getting to and from the airports and the time you have to allow for getting through security, its a bit of a toss up. I have a 6 hour rule in situations like this, if the rail journey takes 6 hours or less, I always take the train. Much more relaxing, and rarely any delays.

Thank you Michael! Do you think I can wait until I get to Paris to buy that ticket? Better deals?
Or is it better to book in advance?

thx in advance again!!!!

To get the discount fare you should book well in advance via the DB website. For international journeys they will mail you your tickets via first class airmail.

Forgot to mention, some the trains that do the route are operated by TGV (France) others by ICE (DB). You can purchase tickets to either via the DB site, but the TGV trains will include a seat reservation in the fare, but the ICE trains don't. To ensure you get an assigned seat on an ICE train you have to purchase a separate seat reservation for about 5 euros. This can also be done via the DB site.
