In 6 days, my husband and I will be traveling the above itinerary to celebrate my 60th birthday. Everyone suggests that we rent a car for the domestic travel, however, we would really rather not drive ourselves. Can you tell us the easiest (not necessarily the fastest) way to get to each of our destinations? (We are actually staying on the Mont for one night.) Buses would be fine, too. We are interested in the most direct routes, with the fewest transfers possible. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
You can take a TGV from Paris to Rennes and a bus provided by SNCF (French national rail) from Rennes to Mont-Saint-Michel. Trains depart from Gare Montparnasse at 07:05, 08:05, and 09:05, There is a 10:05 departure with a connection to a bus at Dol de Bretagne rather than Rennes. The total travel time for the 07:05 and the 09:05 departures is 4 hours. It's 5 hours for the 08:05 departure because of a longer layover in Rennes.
Time-wise, it's a long ride from Mont-Saint-Michel to Deauville. You will need to take either a local bus or a taxi from Mont-Saint-Michel to Pontorson. Your train route will be Pontorson-Caen-Lisieux-Deauville (the station is named Trouville-Deauville). Leave Pontorson at 09:56, two-hour layover in Caen, one-hour layover in Lisieux, and arrive at Trouville-Deauville at 15:57.
