Paris Metro turnstiles

Just chatted with a friend who returned from Paris this week and she freaked me out about getting through the turnstiles to the metro with travel packs on. Is it better to put them on your front to go through?? Great, just one more thing to be worried about!

MD, The turnstiles are narrow but I've never had any problems. I usually travel with a main Pack, Daypack and a Camera bag. When going through Turnstiles I wear the main Pack in back, the Daypack in front and carry the Camera bag in front of me. The packs aren't any wider than I am, so they haven't been a problem going through Turnstiles. I'm sure once you've tried this a few times, you won't be "freaked out". Cheers!

With a wheeeled pack, I've learned to push it ahead of me at the turnstiles. Often there is a luggage slot at the end of the turnstiles where you can push your luggage thru. Then you go thru the turnstile and collect your luggage on the other side. I've gotten stuck a couple of times while pulling my wheeled luggage.

MD, sometimes I've had to hoist it up a bit from the bottom with my hands and walk tip-toed to get it through - it'll work out; you'll see the first time you do it. You won't get permantly wedged or anything LOL! And don't forget to take your ticket back at the other side of the turnstile......MAKE SURE that you keep your unused tickets in one place, and your used tickets in another. Be very disciplined about this. The metro police make periodic checks to see if you've actually used a ticket - they'll want to see your used ticket as you exit the station at street level (if not earlier)...New and used tickets are very hard to tell apart...That was just a bonus tip; no extra charge HA!
